Chasing the Western Nigeria Waterfalls – Day II

We began day two with a hike up the hills of Erio Ekiti. This particular town is predominant for religious tourism and at the very top of the hills is a place called ‘The New Jerusalem’. It was established by Joseph Ayo Babalola, the founder of the Christ Apostolic Church (C.A.C) who promoted Christianity within the town in the early fifties.

We descended the hills after a few hours and made our way to the famous Ikogosi Warm Spring. Before this visit, I had been led to believe that Ikogosi was a waterfall with the warm and cold parts flowing side by side, I somehow ignored the ‘spring’ part…

So, yeah, It’s not a waterfall but it is pretty fascinating. The image below is where the cold and warm springs meet…

But seeing Ikogosi alone was a tad bit underwhelming, so taking a 20 minutes drive from Ikogosi to Arinta Waterfalls was exciting for me. I realized as soon as I got there that I have never really seen an actual waterfall and this was so beautiful to watch.

I stayed here only a couple of minutes because it started to rain as soon as we arrived but I was promised a more magnificent waterfall at Erin Ijesha.

Arinta+Waterfall

WeΒ  left Arinta and headed for our hotel at Erio Ekiti, stopping by at a local restaurant to get Ekiti’s staple meal – Iyan (Pounded yam) and Efo Riro. They proceeded to make the food right there and then and invited me to pound my own dinner.

I have to say, I have met only the friendliest people in Ekiti. Everyone I interacted with was so happy and so full of smiles. I got teased about my yam pounding skills but hey, it turned out good enough to eat!

I also got offered palm wine, which tasted better than I expected. All in all, it was a day well spent!

Everytime I looked up things to do in Kampala and Entebbe, I saw results filled with a lot of movements - sometimes chaotic. πŸš™πŸ

I wanted calm and serenity πŸƒ and knew there just had to be somewhere in these cities where I could find that.

And that's how I stumbled upon Entebbe Forest Lodge - an oasis in tue city. Situated only 30mins away from the international airport, this lodge was a great introduction to Uganda πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¬

It is located in the middle of a forest, right on the shores of Lake Victoria. The perfect place to begin or end your trip in Uganda.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¬ My first trip to Uganda was absolutely wonderful! I can't believe it's taken me this long to visit but I am glad I finally did! πŸƒ

I say first trip because I most certainly will be back! This trip - though short, left me well rested and itching to explore more. πŸŒ₯🌿 I prioritised wellness and nature and it paid off!

As a Kenyan Resident, I was happy to receive discounted offers from lodges that would typically be out of my budget range and was also lucky to be hosted by my work mama in Kampala. πŸ₯Ή - my accommodations were trip highlights for sure!

Kampala traffic? πŸπŸ’¨ Never met her! This one shocked me the most because I had heard so much about it and braced myself for the worst. To my delight, I experienced none of this!

Weather in September? 🌦 Perfect! It rained 4 times during my 7-day stay, but only for short bursts of time. I was still able to do everything I set out to do!

There's plenty I did not see and do in Uganda, so I certainly look forward to returning someday! πŸ’—

In the meantime, catch up with stories on my page - I'll be sharing them soon and let me know if you have visited!
