Flash Fiction: The Political Campaign

The Political Campaign

Baba was indecisive about who he’d be voting for in the coming elections until the campaign came to our hometown in Ekiti.

The candidate had a few words on key sectors, threw blames passim and then, he said something that made Baba and several men cringe.

‘I don’t believe women should just stay home to pound yam for their husbands…’

We heard nothing afterwards. Pounded yam is a very sensitive topic here.

Baba looked at me, clearly mortified. When we left the campaign grounds, his mind was made up. If I was older, I would vote for the opposition too.
