On Set with the Cast of the Lion King

I love safaris – so much! And when they are in the place that inspired the Lion King animated movie, oh joy! In a single year, I went on safari in India, South Africa and Tanzania and no one safari was the same as the other. I guess that’s the thing I love most about them. But I have to say, of all the safaris I’ve been on so far, the one at Serengeti has been the most exceptional. The abundance of wildlife is just spectacular!

The National Park in Tanzania is a UNESCO world heritage site famous for its annual migration of thousands of wildebeests and zebras as well as its large lion population. The name of the park is derived from the Maasai language and it translates to “Endless Plains”. The park extends into Kenya where it is known as ‘Maasai Mara’.

We visited with the hopes of catching the migration but we went a little late and missed all that action. We did have an amazing time regardless, here are some pictures from our trip;

Some points to note:

Our tour was organized by a company called Safari Big 5 (I found them on Trip Advisor. Please read the latest reviews before deciding to go with any company). We opted for the private safari option of hotels/lodges accommodation and a tent in Serengeti. If you’re looking to save costs, consider group and tented safaris. They generally cost less.

Best time to visit the Serengeti

January to February – Calving Season;  June to July – for the wildebeest migration; June to October – general wildlife viewing.

Have you been to the Serengeti or had a safari anywhere else? Let me know in the comment section below!

Everytime I looked up things to do in Kampala and Entebbe, I saw results filled with a lot of movements - oftentimes chaotic, with traffic. 🚙🏍

I wanted calm and serenity 🍃 and knew there just had to be somewhere in these cities where I could find that.

And that's how I stumbled upon Entebbe Forest Lodge - an oasis in the midst of a very busy city. Situated only 30mins away from the international airport, this lodge was a great introduction to Uganda 🇺🇬

It is located in the middle of a forest, right on the banks of Lake Victoria. The perfect place to begin or end your trip in Uganda.

Views you can't beat! This is the Standard Guage Rail (SGR) in Kenya 🇰🇪. It is a rail service that goes from Nairobi to Mombasa (and vice versa) with several stops along the way!

The total time is about 6 hours but if you look outside the window during your ride, you will see several wildlife just living wild and free!

Possible sightings include zebras, warthogs, gazelles, impalas, giraffes and in my opinion, the star of the show - elephants! 🐘🦓🦒

It is such an exciting activity to spot them while on board! And if you have the chance to choose your seats, pick the left side of the train when travelling from Nairobi to Mombasa (i.e. even numbered seats when travelling in Premium Class).

You start to see elephants as you approach Voi and Miasenyi Stations. ✨️
