DIY: How to Apply for a Visa to Namibia

Namibia is an incredibly beautiful country that deserves a spot on every traveller’s wishlist. For many nationalities, the country offers favourable visa conditions, including visa-free entries or the option to get a visa on arrival.

Unfortunately, Nigeria is not currently one such country that enjoys this privilege. Therefore, Nigerian passport holders looking to visit Namibia for tourism and other purposes must apply for a visa before travelling to the country.

As visa rules constantly change, I encourage you to check with the embassy and airlines before your trip to get up-to-date visa requirements and related information.

How to Apply for a Namibian Visa

Applying for a Namibian visa is easy and the application process will depend on where you apply from. In 2014, I got my visa processed directly in Namibia and received a written stamp on my passport upon arrival.

If you are travelling to Namibia as a tourist from Nigeria, this might not be an option. These days, you will need to travel down to Abuja to apply in person or use the services of a trusted consultant who can apply on your behalf.

Namibia High Commission Addresses in Nigeria

You will find a full list of the addresses and contact details of Namibian Foreign Missions here. In Nigeria, the High Commission is located at No. 16 T. Y. Danjuma Street Asokoro District P. M. B. 5097, Wuse Zone 3 Abuja, Nigeria.

A Lagos office is listed on the website linked above, but most people I know who have applied for this visa in Nigeria have had to do so at the High Commission office in Abuja.

If you have applied for a Namibia visa in Lagos (or Abuja), please leave a comment below to tell us how the process went for you.

How I Applied for My Namibian Tourist Visa

I applied in Kenya and had to send my passport via DHL to the High Commission in Dar es Salam. When I checked online, I saw some information about a High Commission in Nairobi. I never visited the office, but I did try to reach them via the emails and phone numbers provided without success.

Eventually, I emailed the High Commission in Tanzania and received a favourable response including a list of the visa requirements and associated costs.

Namibia Visa Application - What Next?

When my visa was ready, I received a call from the High Commission office notifying me of the status and requesting I arrange a pickup via DHL.

And that's it! I eagerly await a borderless Africa for Africans, but until then, I wish you (especially you, my fellow Nigerian passport holders) successful visa applications and happy travels!

  1. Hi, please can tell the reasons you wouldn’t necessarily recommend it for first travel experience

    1. Hi Tino, thanks for the question. I will clarify that I meant this for Nigerian passport holders travelling out of the country for the first time (and especially for solo travellers) and here are my reasons:

      1. First – the immigration experience can be intimidating. I am somewhat of a frequent traveller and had a brand new passport for this trip. I was subjected to extra scrutiny, supervisors were called and so on… It was not that bad (for me), and once they saw my other passport, everything was ok. For a first-time traveller, this can be off-putting or nerve wrecking.

      2. Namibia is amazing but due to transportation constraints, moving around is not very easy. I will recommend countries with more straightforward transport options. Also cost-wise, renting a car is one of the best ways to explore remote locations, therefore, it’s better to travel with someone else or a group to be as cost-effective as possible and to cover more grounds.

How beautiful! 🥹🌸🍃

Japan in Sakura Season is absolutely stunning. I still can't believe we got to enjoy it without the overwhelming crowds.

If you're heading there in a few months, DO consider going off the beaten path. It is so so worth it, I promise you!

Here are alternative cities to consider for lighter crowds without missing out on the "Japan travel experience!"

Tokyo >>> Nagoya, Matsumoto, Fukuoka
Kyoto >>> Magome, Narai, Kanazawa, Kibune
Osaka >>> Okayama
Hakone, Fuji : Skip the day trip and stay overnight

Comment "Sakura" and I'll share the link to my Japan Itinerary blog post to help you plan your trip easily!
