The easiest way to get to Kruger National Park is to fly. The park is accessible via three airports. There is the Phalaborwa Airport located on the northern end of the park, Hoedspruit Eastgate Airport in the Central Kruger Park and Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport in the Southern end.
The flight time ranges between 40 minutes to up to 1hr depending on when and who you choose to fly with. The park is also accessible by a combination of bus and taxi – which was the option we chose during our trip.
On our to the park from Johannesburg, we went with a private car which took us straight to our hotel at the Paul Kruger gate. The total time for that trip was about 5 hours and set us back about R4,000.
On our back though, two broke girls decided to make use of public transport. We spoke with one of the hotel staff who was gracious enough to give us a ride to Hoedspruit, a stop almost two hours away from the hotel.
From Hoedspruit or Nelspruit, you can then get direct buses to Johannesburg. You have the options of taking the bigger buses like the one below or the smaller 14-seater buses. They cost about the same. You can also book online with services like Greyhound which has routes from Nelspruit to Jo’burg.
You can also choose to skip all the hassles by going with an organized tour who will manage transport,ย accommodationย and your safari. This can be significantly expensive but the convenience might be worth the money.ย
