Kenyan and Nigerian citizens are now required to visit the respective Turkish visa agencies in their countries to apply for a Turkish visa. If you’re applying from Nigeria, the gov.tr website mentions that you must apply through Voya Visa, while Kenyans will need to apply through Passport Visa Service (Turkish Route). You should contact them for the forms needed.

Next, compile your supporting documents & submit them to the nearest application centre

See a list of documents you need to apply for a Turkish tourist visa in the details below. Currently, you can simply walk into the Turkish Route Limited office (Kenya) and Voya Visa (Lagos, Nigeria) to submit your application and have your biometric details taken.

Then, get your biometric details taken & pay the visa fees

Visa fees have to be paid in cash and USD.

How to Apply for a Turkish Tourist Visa – Details

The first step to applying for a Turkey visa is to fill out the online application form at the visa pre-application website. (If applying in Nigeria, you will get this form at the application centre). You would need to upload a few supporting documents on the site and these include your flight itinerary, hotel reservation, as well as any other listed document. Once completed, download the form as you would need to submit this at the visa application centre.

Ideally, the next step in the process is to book your appointment date and time on the website but as of this moment, that is not necessary when applying in Kenya. You can simply walk into the application centre to submit your application with the inclusion of all your supporting documentation.

Edit February 2022: Both Nigerian and Kenyan citizens need to apply via the respect Turkish visa agencies in their countries.

Turkey Visa Application Supporting Documents

The documents needed for your visa application include, but are not limited to the following;

  • Visa Application form, filled in English and personally signed by the applicant.

Other Turkey Visa Requirements…

  • For employees: Original letter from your workplace. • Documents belonging to the applicant’s immovables (Real estate title, licenses, etc. Stamped, signed originals must be submitted at the visa application centre.)

I included a few other documents like my marriage certificate, tax certificate, work ID card and trip itinerary but those were returned to me. I’d suggest that you have those handy just in case you need to submit them.

Turkish Visa Appointment in Kenya | Where to Submit Your Application

At the time of this writing, the Turkish visa appointment portal in Kenya is not responsive and you do not need an appointment to submit your documents. Currently, you can simply walk into the Turkish Route Limited office to submit your application and have your biometric details taken. There is no point in going to the Turkish Embassy in Nairobi, you will be directed to Two Rivers Mall.

The office recently opened up, and I think they may re-introduce appointment-based submissions with time. So, be sure to check for the latest information online before visiting. I will also try to update this post as often as I can.

Turkey Tourist Visa Fee in Kenya

The costs of a Turkish visa may vary depending on the kind of visa you apply for. The duration and whether or not you pay for a priority visa service will also affect the cost. A regular single-entry or single transit visa costs $60 at the time of this writing. In addition to this fee, Turkish Route Limited charges an $84 service fee and $45 for health insurance coverage for 2 weeks.

If you opt for a priority visa (aka VIP service), the service fee alone comes up to $174. A double transit visa and multiple entry visa cost $120 and $190 respectively. For health insurance, a 1-week insurance cover costs $30, 2 weeks $45, 1 month $80 and 1 year $275.

Note that these amounts have to be paid for in cash and USD. There’s a Forex office inside the mall where you can exchange money for dollars. You can either withdraw from an ATM or use MPESA to exchange Kenyan Shillings for dollars.

Please visit the Turkish Embassy website to find an updated list of documentation needed to apply for your visa. Also, note that the application centre does not retain your passport. If your visa is approved, you will be informed to submit it for the visa to be stamped in it.

Turkish Visa Appointment in Nigeria | Where to Submit Your Application

At the time of this writing, you can book an appointment on the Voya Visa website (formerly MZ Visa) or walk into the centre in Lagos to submit your application and have your biometric details taken. I have read that the staff conducts preliminary interviews here. I think that might be worth noting.

Where is Voya Visa Located?

Voya Visa has offices in Abuja and Lagos. The Abuja office is located at 20, Nairobi Street, Wuse 2 Abuja FCT, while the Lagos office is located at Plot 1686b Oladele Olashore St, Victoria Island.

A regular single-entry or single transit visa costs $60 at the time of this writing. In addition to this fee, Voya Visa charges a $40 service fee (or $150 for VIP service) and $25 for health insurance coverage for 2 weeks.

I read on Nairaland that there is an additional $5 and ₦5,500 fee to be paid at the centre as well but I’m not entirely sure what these amounts are for. All amounts are to be paid in cash and their respective currencies (i.e. in USD and Naira). You may visit their website for more information.

Turkey Visa Application in Nigeria and Kenya Processing Time

It takes an average of 15-21 working days to get a response for a regular visa. However, this time may vary from one application to the next. As a non-Kenyan passport holder, I was told that my application would take up to a month to be processed. Be sure to apply for your visa well ahead of time. You can also pay to get a priority visa (VIP) in less time but be aware that this option could be quite costly.

Turkey eVisa Application for Nigerian Citizens

You qualify for a Turkish evisa if you have a valid visa or resident permit to the US, UK, Ireland and the Schengen zone. You may apply for a Turkish evisa by visiting this site. The process is fast, seamless and costs $50 for the Nigerian passport holder who meets the conditions above. Once approved, you get your visa within 2-74 hours. The evisa is valid for 30 days.

As of July 2022: Nigerians no longer qualify for this. I will update this post if/once this policy changes.

Requirement for the Turkish eVisa for Nigerian Citizens

  • A valid passport with a minimum of two free leaflets and six months validity
  • A valid supporting visa or resident permit (US, UK, Ireland and Schengen Zone)
  • A return or onward ticket.
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel reservation).
  • Funds of at least USD 50 per day for your stay in Turkey.

What Next?

The next part is a waiting game. At the moment, there is no way to track the status of your Turkey visa application. You just have to wait for Turkish Route Limited or Voya Visa to send you an email or text message letting you know when to bring in or pick up your passport.

My application took 6 weeks in total. I was told that this time is shorter for Kenyan citizens. To avoid any issues, it is best to apply for your visa way ahead of time.

    Hi
One of the requirements is that you must have a resident permit for US, UK ECT. What do people without it do

    • Hi Joyce, is this a new requirement? Nigerians without a US, UK… visitor visa or resident permit can apply for a Turkish tourist visa at the application centres. In the past, we could apply for an evisa with any of the above stated visas or resident’s permit but last I checked, that’s no longer the case.

  2. Hi..I applied for turkey visa last week and my visa was rejected due to some lack of documents requirements..kindly can you advise how long can I wait because I can reapply again?and more information on requirements please

    • You can apply as soon as your circumstances have changed and you have all the required documents as provided by the embassy or Voya Visa. This could be in a month or three or six, etc. It solely depends on your circumstances.

  3. Hi… I just mailed voya visa but for the visa application process but however do you have a guideline on how to travel to Turkey, flight bookings, hotel bookings etc

    • Hi, I have a cost breakdown post which can double as a travel guide. Although the prices may not be exact, you can use it as a guideline.

You can book free cancellation accomodation using this link and airlines like ET and Qatar allow you hold your flight for up to 72 hours if you don’t want to pay for a reservation just yet.

  4. Hello. I’m trying to apply for my baby who is about 15 months old

    • Hi Judith, do you have a question about the application process? If yes, kindly ask.

      • Hello please I want to confirm this… Is it possible for a person to walk-in to turkey embassy in Abuja to submit visa application form and supporting documents? Or must the person go to voyavisa?

  5. Hello,
Thanks for the article. It’s quite informative. Allow me to ask, I applied for an express visa via Turkish route last week on 20th April. When am I likely to get the visa considering Fri 21st was a holiday? How will I know it’s out?

    • Hi, if you’re Kenyan, it takes about 6 days for a regular application. That’ll put the timeline at May 2, since the 1st is a public holiday. Since you applied for an express visa, you can expect to get this sometime this week – all things being equal. Turkish Route will call you when the application is approved to bring in your passport and you will get the stamp after 24 hours.

    • Hi Winnie. After how long did you get your VIP express visa? I too am applying the express one and wanted to know the number of days. Thanks !

  6. How much is a tourist visa and how long does it take to be approved?

  7. What about Kenya citizens who are green card holders living in USA want Turkish visa

    • Hello, at this time, Nationals of Kenya are not eligible for an evisa, even if they have a US visa or green card. They’ll have to apply at the nearest Turkish mission.

  8. Can my sister extend her two weeks visa here in turkey? What are the procedures and requirements e.g for a tourist short term permit? And whether i she can use my bank account statement while applying for the permit? Kindly help

    • Hello, I don’t have any knowledge of how to extend a tourist visa in Turkey. This post is only dedicated to how to get one. I have read online that foreigners are able to extend their visas but I don’t know what the process entails.

  9. Hi, my name is Deepak with indian passport applying in Nairobi. Do i need to apply online for visa to Turkey?
    regards,
    Deepak Badde

    • Hi Deepak, Indian citizens also need to apply for a visa to visit Turkey. You can check this site to see if you are eligible to apply for an e-visa, otherwise, you would need to go through Turkish Route.

  10. Hi. For kenyan first timers to Turkey is it possible to get a visa of more than 14 days? We are Kenyan citizens.

  11. Hi how are you? i am an indian passport holder, i applied for my visa on 31st march 2022 from nairobi, when do you think i would get my visa? as i have reservations for 15th april 2022. my husband has applied for the same but he has kenyan passport

    • Hello Krishna, as I was told, the process usually takes about 5 working days for Kenyan passport holders. Mine took 6 weeks but I have a ‘problematic passport’. I cannot say for sure when yours will be out but I’d say you should both give it until the end of the week at least. That’ll be about 6 working days. Hopefully, you get it in time to make your trip.

      • Hi. hope you doing gud .I am indian passport holder.I have applied for visa on 22 July and we have booked our flights for 26 August. Do you have any idea in how many days a non Kenyan gets the visa .The status shows it’s in the process and the embassy here is waiting for the response from interior ministry turkey .Also just want to know that you have mentioned that you have a problematic passport..what does that mean .

        • Hi Sara, I’m sorry I don’t know how long the process takes for non Kenyan passport holders. I thought my case was an anomaly because I have a Nigerian passport – which is seen by many countries as problematic. Hopefully yours wouldn’t take that long.

        • Ohk got it .thanks 👍

    • Hi Krishna , in how many days did you get the visa .hope you travelled on the booked dates.I am also indian citizen and applied for visa from Kenya

  14. Berna Namayanja

Hello , I applied I would kindly want to know if my visa is out. Thank you.

    • Hi Berna, as of when I applied (which I think is still the status quo now), there’s no way to track your application. Turkish Route (assuming you’re applying from Kenya) will send you a text message when it’s time to bring your passport back for a stamp. After that, they’ll send you another message to come to pick it up the next day. For Kenyan citizens, this should take about 5 days. When did you apply?

  15. Thank you for all you do girl, the sky is your starting point.
