How to Apply for a Singapore Visa as a Nigerian Citizen

The Singapore visa application process for Nigerians can be as simple as getting in touch with an authorized travel agency in Nigeria to apply for the visa on your behalf. The only “problem” is that they will solely provide this service as part of a combined travel package.

For independent travellers who like to plan out their itineraries, there are two other options available to choose from. The first is to get a strategic partner or a local contact in Singapore to apply on your behalf. This contact person must be legally resident in the country and must be above 21 years of age.

They would need to log in to the evisa website and fill out a form on their end, while you provide any other necessary documents required to obtain the visa.

The other option is to apply directly via the nearest Overseas Mission office. In Nigeria, you will find the Honorary Consulate in Lagos. But if you live in a country where there isn’t one, then the Singapore visa application process has a few added layers. Here’s how I got my visa as a Nigerian living in Kenya.

Fort Canning Spiral Staircase

I applied for a visa whilst being resident in Kenya. As Kenyans do not require a visa to visit Singapore, there is no consulate or embassy in the country. The closest Overseas Mission to Kenya is located in South Africa, so I reached out to the High Commission office to find out how feasible it was to get the visa through them.

The office was very responsive and replied to all my emails promptly. After a few exchanges, they advised me to submit all the visa requirements via email, instead of travelling down to Pretoria or Nigeria and to pay the non-refundable visa fee of R380 (about $23).

The documents were pretty much straightforward and consistent with most other application requirements. The one addition here was that I needed to either get a local contact to fill out an invitation form or get a letter of introduction from the Nigerian Embassy.

Thanks to an introduction from a friend, I was able to contact the Nigerian High Commission here in Nairobi and I received this letter promptly.

To apply for the visa, I submitted the following documents:

  • Completed visa application form (form 14a). It can be downloaded from this site.
  • Valid travel document (minimum validity of 6 months at the time of departure) – a copy of passport biodata page
  • Confirmed onward or return tickets (if applicable)
  • Singapore accommodation details
  • A cover letter explaining my reason for travelling and including the dates of my arrival and departure from Singapore.
  • An introduction letter from the Nigerian High Commission in Nairobi, indicating the following:
    • My full name and passport number
    • Complete flight itinerary
    • Singapore accommodation details
    • The reason for travelling to Singapore
    • Date of departure from Singapore.
  • Entry facilities, including visas, to the next destination – I submitted my Kenyan Resident Permit
  • Proof of funds – I submitted 3 months’ bank statements and pay slips.

It took a few more emails, additional documentation and tweaks to the introduction letter before the consulate finally accepted my application and granted me the visa.

Even though getting this visa was not very straightforward for me, I appreciated the timely and polite correspondence from the consular’s office. Since we exchanged emails back and forth for a while, I almost feel like we’re besties now and want to send them my trip recap, haha!

In all seriousness though, rather than deny my visa application outrightly, they communicated with me to let me know what other information they needed and once I provided them, I received my evisa.

If you plan to apply as an independent traveller from Nigeria, then here’s the consulate’s address below. Be aware of the requirement for a Singapore resident’s Form v39 or an introduction letter from the Nigerian Embassy.

Singapore Visa Application: Where is the Singapore Consulate Located in Lagos?

The Honorary Consulate-General of the Republic of Singapore in Lagos is located at Nipost Towers, Block A (6th Floor), 1/3 Ologun Agbaje Street, Victoria Island.

They are open on Mondays to Fridays from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm. For any enquires or additional information, you can find these on the website or contact the following telephone numbers: +234-1-4610818, 4619088, 80996 78888 and email address: [email protected].

Singapore Visa Application Fees

The current cost of applying for a Singapore visa for Nigerian citizens is S$30 (about $23). I believe the rate in Naira can be gotten directly from the consulate on the day of your application. I read somewhere that this has to be paid for in cash, however, I am not sure if this is still applicable.

  1. What is the process of getting a Singapore working visa as a Nigeria citizen

    1. I’m sorry, I don’t have any information about this. I assume it will be easier if you get sponsored by a company there.

    1. This article is for a tourist visa application to Singapore. It is best to contact the embassy or High Commission for details about getting a work permit.

  2. Thanks for the tips, quite helpful. Pls does one require an appointment with the consulate begore submitting an application in Nigeria? Thanks

    1. As of now, I do not think so. You can simply walk in within the opening hours. You can also try calling the numbers to confirm.

  3. Hello, I am trying to get my husband’s Singapore visa application submitted, but unable to get a response from the embassy in Lagos. Were you able to do the entire process via email? He can go the embassy Lagos, but don’t want to waste a trip if he doesn’t have to. However, they have not responded to my emails. Do you have a specific contact with Lagos consulate or another email address you used?

    1. Hi Shalanda, I’m sorry I don’t have a Lagos contact as I did not apply there. My interactions via email were with the High Commission in Pretoria.

      1. Thank you Amarachi. The Pretoria have been more responsive, but since my husband is local in Nigeria he is expected to apply in person. Hopefully, we can get this done. I miss my husband.

        1. No worries! It might be easier to have an approved agent apply on your behalf too. The visa comes out in less than a week.

  4. I got so excited at the title of this post cause it meant Singapore series is coming. Already I’m living for the photos, so I can’t wait.

I love to hear from you, Leave a comment here!

Kenya had dropped the paid ETA requirement for most Africans, including Nigerians. 💃🏾🎉

And in celebration of that, I'm sharing some of my favourite places to include in your Kenyan holiday itinerary!

Will you be visiting or have you been to any of these places?

This lodge in Taita-Taveta was such a great last-minute find for me!

I needed a quick break from Nairobi and thought to visit Diani and Tsavo. While finding accommodation in Diani was fairly easy, I struggled to find a place that fit my schedule, budget, and preference in the Voi/Tsavo area.

When I stumbled upon The Hildana Lodge, I couldn't be happier. Luckily, they had availability for the exact dates I wanted, a resident's rate, and no single supplement!

I stayed here for 2 nights but could have easily stayed longer! This place is magical, and I can't wait to return! ✨️

As someone who enjoys travelling and pursuing a fulfilling career, I don't believe that you have to give up one for the other. ✈️🍂✨️

You can maintain a healthy travel life without forfeiting a career you love, and here's one of the best ways to do so ⤵️

Taking advantage of public holidays, combined with your vacation days. For example, there's a public holiday coming up next month.

It'll be a 2-day holiday, and if you take only 2 days off work, you'll get 6 vacation days! - perfect for this "Beach and Bush" holiday in Kenya! 🐚🐘🌊

Work-life balance is key, so find ways to do the things that are important to you now that you can!💙

Here's what you can expect when you ride the premium class train from Nairobi to Mombasa and vice versa 🚅

It's a slow but scenic ride to the coast, but I love it and rather prefer it to flying. ✨️

PS: If you want great views of Tsavo National Park as you pass through (Nairobi > Mombasa), sit on the left side of the train (i.e., even numbered seats)

But be aware that some seats have partial window views. Seats 26, 21, 25, 15, and 6 are great!(Nairobi > Mombasa)

Seat on the opposite side on the Mombasa > Nairobi train. I couldn't keep track of all the good seats on this train 🥹.

The train also has a first and economy class coach, which are significantly cheaper than premium class. And once you're back in Nairobi, all "premium services end" 🤭😋

Have you gone on this train before? What was your experience like? 💬

Are team train 🚆 or flight ✈️?

The most relaxing staycation ever! Coastal vibes in Diani Beach and a wonderful safari in Taita-Taveta county! 🐚🐘

This trip was so easy to plan and embark upon from Nairobi. I travelled by rail from Nairobi to Mombasa and then to Diani. 🌊

On my return leg, I stopped in Voi and transferred to a super gorgeous lodge, where I spent the weekend enjoying massages, spotting elephants 🐘 and giraffes 🦒, and just having a swell and relaxing time!
