My sister and I recently spent about 10 days travelling from Lagos to Accra by road. Not all days were spent on the road of course. Our trip was broken in parts. I wrote about them in the first part of this series. (Recap of our trip in Grand Popo | Accra | Cape Coast). I also wrote a cost and trip breakdown which you can find here and a review of services here.

Here’s a video summary of the entire trip. I hope you enjoy it and please subscribe to my YouTube channels: Travel with a Pen | Through Our Eyes.

  1. Good day Amarachi, pls I and my hubby want to travel to Ghana by road for the first time, just for relaxation, we Don’t have relatives to stay with hope we will not be disturb by immigration officer, cos they may be asking for invitation letter. My questions are these, is it when we get there that we will book for guest house or what? Abt the yellow fever card, can we go and do it by ourselves or we will get it at the border? Thanks for your time.

    • Hi Olubunmi, you should be fine if you travel with a standard transportation company. Even if you travel without one, I highly doubt that anyone would ask for an invitation letter.

I would advice that you book a place for your first night at least. Just in case you arrive late, you’ll have a place to stay without worrying so much. As for the yellow fever certificate, yes you have to do it yourself. I’m putting up a post about that soon, in the mean time, you can have a look at the FAQ for Ghana. It’s included in that post.
