Based on popular demand :), I’ve decided to research and put up this post about countries to visit with a Canadian visa for Nigerian passport holders. While I have never held a Canadian visa, I am hoping to apply for one soon and will also write about the visa application process when I do.
Edit December 2024: I have now successfully applied for a Canadian visa and written about it here.
Like the UK, US and Schengen visas, a Canadian visa also helps expand the ever-dwindling list of countries that Nigerian citizens can visit with an evisa, a visa on arrival or completely visa free.

Thanks so much for the wonderful work you do with this blog! I wanted to share my recent experience entering Nicaragua having both a Canadian and US Visa. It is possible and as a Nigerian you would indeed get visa on arrival. However, here are a couple of pointers to note. I crossed the border into Nicaragua from Costa Rica with a tour company. I think this actually helped me because I don’t speak Spanish and the tour operator was able to stay with me and translate the questions from the immigration officer. The process took me about 45 minutes. It was very professional and courteous. I was asked questions about my work (current and prior), my current residence, and travel. Eventually my passport was stamped with a 30 day visa upon payment of $50. don’t know if the process would have been quicker if I had flown into the capital. Sharing this in case someone wants to do border crossing from any of the neighbouring countries. My advice would be to use a tour company. I used Native’s Way from Guanacaste, Costa Rica. All the best to my fellow adventurous Nigerian travellers!
Thank you so much for sharing your experience. This is so helpful, especially having a guide who speaks Spanish with you. I can imagine that it might have gone differently otherwise.
Taking note of this if I find myself attempting a cross-country road trip in South/Central America.
