Based on popular demand :), I’ve decided to research and put up this post about countries to visit with a Canadian visa for Nigerian passport holders. While I have never held a Canadian visa, I am hoping to apply for one soon and will also write about the visa application process when I do.

Like the UK, US and Schengen visas, a Canadian visa also helps expand the ever-dwindling list of countries that Nigerian citizens can visit with an evisa, a visa on arrival or completely visa free.

In this post, I will write about the countries to visit with a Canadian Visa or PR card, including references to each country’s official immigration website. But, and this is important to note, the information I provide here could be limited and could change without prior notice.

I try to update these visa articles as often as I can, however, as travel requirements are constantly changing, I implore you to conduct your own research and verify the information here, especially before your travel dates, to ensure you have the latest requirements.

I also truly appreciate everyone who contributes to enriching these articles by sharing their own experiences while travelling with a Nigerian passport. If you have visited any country recently with your Canadian PR card or tourist visa, please share your experiences with us!

This article focuses on travellers with valid Canadian tourist visas and PR cards. Other visa types may be used as well, however, I recommend that you confirm the entry requirements for yourself. Also, remember that some countries will require you to have a multiple-entry visa and you must have utilised this visa first in the origin country.

WARNING!

There’s been some feedback about Nigerian passport holders being denied boarding and entry into Egypt and Mexico using their resident cards and tourist visas. Please contact the airlines and immigration offices before you travel and get a confirmation (preferably a written one), that you will be allowed to board and enter the country with your valid documents.

The IATA site has this disclaimer for Nigerian Nationals to Egypt: Nigerian Nationals must have confirmation that their entry has been approved before departure by the Ministry of Interior, in addition to a visa.

Cuba and Turks & Caicos: Reference the comment from Adejoké Babington-Ashaye in the linked article and please confirm with the appropriate authorities about the requirements before travelling to Cuba.

  • 💡 Fun Fact: If you want to taste the BEST Kenyan tea, you’ll have to travel outside the country to do so!
_________________________

Kenya is one of the world’s largest producers of tea, and a great way to spend a weekend in Nairobi is to take a day trip to visit one of its tea farms.

📍 Kiambethu Tea Farm, Limuru 🍵🍃

  • Day out in the city for a tour at Kiambethu Tea Farm 🍃

This place has been on my Kenya wish list for a while and I'm glad we were finally able to tick it off - practically had to strong-arm Mark to drive us there, but you know, these photos won't take themselves!

The farm is only about 40 minutes away from the city centre, and the tour is well organized.

You learn so much about how tea gets from farm to store (I'll write more about this on travelwithapen.com and my broader thoughts about this experience)...

Overall, not a bad way to spend a free day in the city.
  • Maybe it's just me, but I don't think anyone's passport should be held for longer than 5 days! 🤔

Shout out to countries that either process visas super fast or have a FREE "keep your passport" option in place. ✨️

Just had my longest visa processing experience yet. I applied for a Canadian visa last month and have just received it 1 month later. Luckily, I got to keep my passport the whole time.

I often hear stories of certain VACs holding on to people's passports for months! Months???

Anyway, what are your thoughts?

Cairo can be a hit or miss for many travellers. So far, I've spent 6 months cumulatively in this city and have enjoyed my time there overall.

My top tips for a good stay include:

- Winter (November - February) offers the most pleasant temperatures for exploring

- Visiting tourist sites early in the morning - this way, you can avoid the intense midday heat, overwhelming crowds, and persistent touts. You'll also get to enjoy a more peaceful experience at iconic sites like the Pyramids and Islamic Cairo.

- Solo (female) travellers: you certainly need a softer landing than Cairo. If it's your first time solo travelling, consider visiting other cities first like Sharm el Sheikh, Luxor and Aswan. But most of all, do your own research and know what to expect.

- Uber and Careem work well in Cairo and are good alternatives for local transport. If you do take a local taxi, always negotiate fares upfront.

Last year, I got to spend 3 months in Egypt's capital city and it allowed me to visit (and revisit) some pretty cool places.

I revisited Giza's Pyramids and Sphinx, dined in idyllic cafes and restaurants, and even lucked out on viewing a beautiful fireworks display from a hotel's rooftop.

  1. Thank you for sharing this vital information !!

    • Thank you so much for sharing your experience. This is so helpful, especially having a guide who speaks Spanish with you. I can imagine that it might have gone differently otherwise.

Taking note of this if I find myself attempting a cross-country road trip in South/Central America.
